Several feeding trials with Atlantic cod have been performed at NTNU and SINTEF Fisheries and Aquaculture (Norway). Copepods have been tested against traditional feeding regimes with rotifers/Artemia and there is a common, positive, conclusion from all the experiments.
Cod show higher growth rates and improved survival when offered copepods. In stress tests cod larvae fed copepods show higher tolerance to induced stressors than cod fed rotifers and Artemia. There have also been a few studies on the bone development and they demonstrate that larvae fed copepods have earlier onset of the ossification process and have less incidents of deformities in the skeleton than the larvae fed other live feed.
